Do you like muesli in the morning? I love it, especially granola. It is roasted and crunchy. It is full with nuts and dried fruits and chocolate sometimes. Could not be better. There is only one problem. Its price!

So I try to make my own granola, and it is always different, depending on what grains do I have at home, what season we have (fruits and nuts) and which mood I am in. This is just an example, but you can use basically any kinds of grains, fruits, spices, whatever you feel like 🙂

It is easy to make and way cheaper than buying it. For this one I used oats, crunchy bran flakes, but you can use cornflakes too. I had almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. As fruits I added dried apricots, apples, cranberries, raisins and a couple of dates. You can also add coconut flakes or cocoa powder if you like them, and then the whole granola is going to have coconut or chocolate flavor.  Spice it up with cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, ginger or a bit of pepper.

You can dry the fruits yourself, and store them in a jar, they have a really long shelf life. If you do not have a dehydrator, just buy them or dry them in the oven.

  • 2 handful of oat
  • 1 handful of sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • 2 handful of hazelnut, almond, cashew
  • 1/2 handful of dried fruits
  • 1 handful of bran/cornflakes
  • 1/2 handful of dark chocolate
  • 5 tablespoon of honey, sugar or a mix of them

Chop the nuts into rough pieces and toast them on a pan. Mix all the ingredients (the spices too, if you use any) except the fruits and the chocolate, on a baking tray and toast them in the oven on a 170 degrees for 20 minutes. It can be a bit less or more. Check on it sometimes, so you make sure, you do not burn them. On halfway pour the honey/sugar over and mix it well. You can mix more than once. Take it out from the oven, let it cool. Finally mix it with the chopped chocolate, the dried fruits.

Enjoy your breakfast!
