Can you make pesto at home? Of course you can! And it is very cool to be able to make things, which are simply available in the supermarkets. It is cheaper. You know all the ingredients, you choose them. You know what you eat. You do not add preservatives or coloring to your food. It is fun. It tastes better. You are proud of yourself. You are so proud of what you made, that you give jars of pesto to your friends. Your friends are happy. They also make you something in return. You are happy. Do you still buy it???

An easy homemade pesto recipe, that you can make all year round. You can replace the basil with other herbs, like parsley. You can also replace the sunflower seeds with pine nuts, pumpkin seeds. The amount of garlic and salt is up to your taste. This time I used olive oil, but it is doable with sunflower oil too.

Ingredients

60 ml oil

35 g hard cheese

20 g basil

20 g sunflower seeds

1 clove garlic

salt

cookingtherapy_homemadepestoYou can toast the nuts or leave them raw. Blend all the ingredients together or use a mortar. This amount is for two persons, for 200 g of pasta. Add the pesto on your plate, but do not cook with it (it will lose the green color). Grate mooooore cheese on the top. Taste it, and you will never ever want to buy pesto in a supermarket...
