What is that? The best candy ever from leftovers. It is cheap, quick, easy to make and DELICIOUS! Does anyone know better? Without these neither Christmas nor december -for me.

I remember, when people started to eat orange and tangerine in the classroom or on the buses I knew, time is coming when my mom will come home with a pack of candied orange peels. And the day after with an other one...until the orange season was over. Later I bought it for myself. One day I was thinking, I could make them just as well as the pastry shop.

I make this candy every year from November until the end of the season. Normally I collect the peel of like 3-4 oranges. Soak them in water for overnight.

3-4 oranges peel

500 g local or fairtrade sugar

200 g fairtrade chocolate

You cannot make to much of these, but if you do not eat/use them all at once, (which I doubt) keep them in airtight container.

candy :)

It is very important that you use organic, especially when it comes to orange. You use the peel of it, which is exposed to chemical treatments. Wash it well, and eat the orange, or make orange juice…then you have the peel. Remove the white part, and cut them into a shape which you prefer. Soak them in cold water for overnight. Place them into a pot with boiling water for a couple of minutes, rinse them with cold water. Repeat this twice more. Make a sugar syrup. Simmer the peels in the syrup until they turn transparent. Remove them from the syrup, let them dry on baking paper. Melt chocolate, dip the orange peels into the melted chocolate. Let them dry on baking paper (and do not forget to taste:)).
