It is easy to shop, and not to think too much about what you actually buy. What you support with the products you choose to pay for. But what if you start to make things at home which so far, you have always bought? You do not have to buy everything, because you can make so many things on your own, instead of letting other people to make them for you.

When you start to make your own food, it makes you realize of your hidden skills. Suddenly, you are able to do much more things, than you thought! Cooking makes you more confident and independent. More powerful and happier. And also healthier.

The next step is to make products from your own garden, but that is not a necessity. It is good enough, if you know the source of your ingredients. On this way, you support local (or not) farmers with your money. When I cook, I mostly use local and seasonal ingredients. I try to avoid anything else, but if I choose to make something, for example with cocoa, I pay for the luxurious ingredients. You can go for different, traceable and reliable marks, or you can even have your own trees and support the farmers directly, while having the best possible chocolate.

Hazelnut cream_ for the pancakes on a Sunday brunch, or for a lonely evening with a spoon

hazelnut and cocoa spead

This hazelnut spread came to my mind so many times before, but I have never made it. I just banished Nutella from my diet, but something was always missing. So, here it is. The super-secret recipe..! Let me give you an advice. If you want to make something on your own, which always came from a supermarket before, just go there, take the product and read the ingredient list. Write down the ones, which you can understand, and buy them. Make your own, and balance the taste, as you wish. Do the same with this hazelnut cream!

Nutella contains 55% of sugar, 23% of palm oil, 14% hazelnut, 8% cocoa. So I used about 70% hazelnut, 10% cocoa and the rest is butter, maple syrup and a pinch of salt.

Roast the hazelnuts, peel off the brown skin. The easiest way to do it, is wrapping the hazelnuts in a kitchen cloth and massage them, until the peel comes off. Grind it. Add cocoa powder, butter. Balance the taste with maple syrup/honey/sugar and a bit of salt. Forget about the "illusion of hazelnut" cream, which is also harmful for our environment and for the people, who work for its ingredients. And suddenly you will realize, how much power is in a tiny jar...

Use real ingredients, make your own food, do something good for yourself, others and for the planet, which is also yours.
